About Destinos Fascinantes: Curated Travel, Not Checklist Tourism
Destinos Fascinantes started in 2014 as a quiet rebellion against Instagram tourism. While others chase viral spots and crowded landmarks, I focus on places where locals still gather, where restaurants don't have English menus, and where the best views don't require an entrance fee. This isn't a travel diary — it's a carefully curated collection of authentic experiences worth discovering.
My Journey as a Travel Enthusiast
I'm Cláudio César, a Brazilian with an insatiable curiosity for the world's hidden corners. Born and raised in Brazil, I discovered my passion for travel through books, documentaries, and conversations with travelers who passed through my city. I'm not a globetrotter who's visited every continent — I'm a researcher who believes in depth over breadth.
In 2014, I created Destinos Fascinantes not as a diary of my travels, but as a curated collection of authentic places worth discovering. Some recommendations are based on my personal experiences. Others come from deep research — local blogs, traveler reviews, conversations with residents, and trusted sources. My mission has always been the same: help you find places that feel real — not just Instagram spots.
Why Trust These Recommendations?
I don't claim to have been everywhere. When I haven't visited a place personally, I'm transparent about it — and I rely on trusted sources: local tourism boards, resident reviews, and travel writers who actually live there.
Before I recommend anything, I ask: Does it offer a genuine local experience? Is it accessible to independent travelers (not just luxury tourists)? Would I personally visit this place if I had the chance?
If I recommend a hotel or tour, it's because I believe in it — not because someone paid me. I've turned down lucrative partnerships that didn't align with my standards.
Our Values
We highlight places locals love, not just tourist traps. If a destination is overcrowded or losing its character, we'll tell you — and suggest alternatives.
We disclose when content is based on research vs. personal experience. No pretending I've been somewhere I haven't.
We include budget options alongside luxury experiences. Travel shouldn't be exclusive to the wealthy.
We encourage responsible travel that benefits communities, not just tourists. Leave places better than you found them.
How I Find Hidden Gems
My process is deliberately slow — the opposite of algorithm-driven travel:
I spend weeks researching each destination — reading local blogs, watching resident vlogs, studying maps, and analyzing traveler reviews. I look for patterns: what do locals consistently recommend? What do repeat visitors love?
I reach out to people who actually live in these places — hotel owners, tour guides, restaurant staff. Their insights are more valuable than any guidebook. I ask: "Where do you go on your day off?" not "What should tourists see?"
I never rely on a single source. If three independent local blogs mention the same hidden café, and traveler reviews confirm it's amazing, that's when I feel confident recommending it.
I check if recommendations stay accurate year-round. A village perfect in summer might be inaccessible in winter. I note these details so you don't get stranded.
What This Blog Is NOT
I don't write about every place I visit. I only write about places worth your time and money.
I don't chase trends or viral spots. If a place is overcrowded on TikTok, I wait 12-24 months before covering it.
I include budget options because travel shouldn't be exclusive. A $30 guesthouse can be more authentic than a $300 hotel.
When I haven't visited a place personally, I'll tell you. Transparency builds trust — and that's more important than pretending to be an expert on everything.
